Merit scholarships are based on a student’s academic, artistic, athletic or other abilities. Applicant’s extracurricular activities and community service record are also considered. The widely awarded merit based scholarships are given out by either private organizations or directly by the student’s college of choice recognize academic achievement along with high scores on standardized tests.
